Al Vecchio Borgo in Sassari: The Temple of Fresh Seafood Just Outside the Historic Center

Piatto di tonno scottato e vino bianco in un accogliente ristorante di mare a Sassari, con caschi da moto sullo sfondo

Just outside the historic center of Sassari lies a small gastronomic refuge where the scent of the sea blends with the warmth of a true Sardinian home. Al Vecchio Borgo is not your usual tourist spot with endless menus, but an intimate, family-run restaurant with just a few tables, where the absolute star is the fresh catch from the nearby Gulf of Asinara.

In this corner of taste, a fixed menu does not exist. The culinary offering strictly follows the rhythm of the seasons and the morning deliveries from trusted local fishermen. The golden rule to best experience this place? Close the menu and let yourself be guided directly by the chef's intuition.

Must-Try Dishes: Our Guests' Experiences
In this restaurant, hospitality meets the utmost flexibility. Just a few days ago, Huguette and Francis, two very friendly and active French guests of Villa Malvasio, wanted to celebrate a special event with a special dish. The restaurant fulfilled their wish, specially cooking two ultra-fresh Alghero lobsters exactly according to their instructions. Upon their return, their faces spoke for themselves: they were enthusiastic, happy, and deeply satisfied with the beautiful day. The photo of their radiant smiles, with the lobsters in the foreground attached to this article, is worth a thousand words!

And they are not the only ones. A group of German motorcyclists staying with us also chose this place for the final dinner of their trip, returning literally euphoric and repeating in cheerful English: "Tuna! Tuna! Tuna!". All this confirms what we always suggest to those seeking true seafood flavors:

  • The Lobster (upon reservation): For special occasions, the chef selects and tailors the best local lobsters. An unforgettable culinary experience.
  • The Signature Appetizer: Start with a platter of raw fish and seafood appetizers, the best way to taste the purity of the waters.
  • Fresh First Courses: Order freshly made pasta, such as Culurgiones sautéed with melted butter, clams, and a dusting of bottarga, or the traditional Fregola.
  • The Catch of the Day (and the famous Tuna): Choose the ultra-fresh roasted fish or the tuna that made our bikers fall in love.
  • The Grand Finale: Choose the timeless warm Seadas with honey or the delicious homemade artisanal desserts.
