Villa Malvasio breakfast with local Sardinian honey from Ottava

Breakfast at Villa Malvasio features local honey from Ottava. Taste Apicoltura Piras' liquid gold, from Bitter to Eucalyptus, on fresh ricotta.

In Sardinia, honey is not merely a sweetener to stir into tea. It is an institution. It is part of our DNA. Just think of the iconic sweets of our island: what would the Seada (a fried cheese fritter) be without that final drizzle of warm gold? Or the famous Torrone di Tonara (nougat), which owes its incredible softness specifically to the exclusive use of honey instead of sugar?

At Villa Malvasio, we believe the first "good morning" should tell this story.

From the "Maquis" to the Table: The Choice of Ottava

To bring you this authentic experience, we chose not to go far. We source our honey from Apicoltura Piras, an excellence located in the hamlet of Ottava, just a few kilometers from our Villa. It is a true "Km 0" (Farm-to-Table) choice: the bees that produce this honey fly over the same flowers that color our countryside.

A Honey for Every Palate (and Benefit)

On our breakfast table, we offer our guests the chance to explore the nuances of Sardinian nature. Because not all honey is created equal:

  • The Classic Millefiori (Wildflower): The perfect balance, the taste of the Sardinian spring in a teaspoon.
  • Eucalyptus: Dark, dense, and balsamic. It is a natural remedy for the respiratory system and has a bold taste that many of our guests adore.
  • Rosemary: Delicate, almost floral, perfect for those looking for refined sweetness.
  • The "Bitter King" (Thistle/Strawberry Tree): A real treat for connoisseurs. Cardo (Thistle) or Corbezzolo (Strawberry Tree) honey has that unmistakable bitter aftertaste, highly prized and sought after worldwide by gourmets.

The Insider's Tip: How to Taste It Best

Forget the rules. At Villa Malvasio, we invite you to experiment with contrasts. Our favorite pairing? Take some fresh ricotta cheese (often found at our buffet) and let a generous drizzle of Eucalyptus or Wildflower honey fall over it. The aromatic sweetness of the honey embracing the milky delicacy of the ricotta is a mystical experience—simple, yet unforgettable.

Choosing Villa Malvasio means choosing to taste the real Sardinia, starting with your first coffee.
